Blogging has become a daily affair on the internet. For some, a blog is a personal diary with notes one wishes to share with others on the internet, while for others, it is a passion they wouldn't want to let go, while for some others it is just a chore to earn some extra bucks.
Where do you fit in?
Do you really need a blog?
Do you really need another blog?
Well, just simple questions, hard answers!
This was simply the toughest question I have asked myself.
The answer lies with the creator of a blog. The primary purpose of a blog might just be for fun, or an experiment with a new fascination, but in the end, each blog serves a purpose - fun, info source, entertainment, communication portal, extension of a website, supplementing a product, earning some extra buck or just a personal diary. You, the author decides the purpose. And yes, the author is always right (in the right context, of course!).
The purpose of a blog should be the focus all along and should act as a reminder when one strays from the purpose. I really believe in choosing a theme for one's blog, and sticking to the theme while writing keeps the audience engaged in a blog. Look at www.problogger.net and www.pearsonified.com! They absolutely stick to their area, and they are excellent. What makes them tick? Reflect on the purpose of Problogger - a blog dedicated to the hardcore blogger. It is a must read for every blogger, no matter what level of blogger you are. Darren Rowse is a master in the art of blogging and his blog is a solid example of an almost perfect blog.
Are you an expert in your own field? Do you think you have something different to convey to the world, an ingenious idea never thought before? Are you bubbling with ideas, and thinking of a platform to vent it out?
If you answered a resounding YES to any of these questions, then you are justified in starting that blog. But, remember, there are other experts in that same field. And, if your ideas or writing does nothing different than the others, yours might be a failed cause.
Choose your niche carefully, and blog your heart out to satisfy the needs of that community. If you have done your homework in finding the right niche, you are right on track to becoming the next PROBLOGGER!
Darren, watch out!
